Our range of services
Upgrade and availability of the tracks is becoming more important all the time. We master the logistic and organisational challenges of new construction, maintenance, and track renovation, keeping the availability level of the track as high as possible. As experts, we master all types of rail systems, from ballast rail systems up until non-ballasted tracks, and are partner for all track gauges – including mountain railways, cable cars, and narrow-gauge railways.
We put large projects completely into practice from A to Z – economically, reliably, and rapidly – even during traffic operation, with the highest precision. By means of innovative and modern machine technology, efficient project management, and well-established teams we master any assignment economically and precisely.
Points and crossings are central junctions of the railway network, at which tracks split into different directions, cross and reconnect. Due to increasing speeds and wheel loads, these areas are subject to higher wear and tear and thus require intensive maintenance and service. LEONHARD WEISS is your expert for the new construction, maintenance and repair of points – from simple industrial points up to complex high-speed points. We are proficient in all types of railway systems – no matter if ballasted track or non-ballasted track. Thanks to our state-of-the-art top class track construction cranes we can install prefabricated large parts of points in highest quality during traffic operation.
The construction and maintenance of track systems are indispensable for today’s railway traffic. In order to recognise risks early-on, regular inspections of bridges and track systems are essential. These evaluations make it possible to assess the state of the infrastructure and act correspondingly. Regular maintenance, like cleaning drains and greasing mobile parts are necessary, in order to guarantee the functionality and safety of the infrastructure.
Maintenance includes inspection as well as repair and aims at prolonging the lief cycle of the infrastructure. By renovating existing structures, the experts of LEONHARD WEISS make them safe and functional again or improve them. Specific processes like the renovation of bridge girders include repair or exchange of girders, in order to ensure the load bearing capacity and safety.
Central aspects of public traffic and urban development are the improvement of the efficiency and capacity of local traffic, the optimisation of connections and the reduction of environmental stress. Extensive planning is indispensable in this case, in order to take into account traffic flows, existing infrastructure, and the requirements of residents.
Inner city construction projects are often faced with challenges like limited space, noise protection and the direction of traffic flows and the necessity, to maintain the flow of traffic. LEONHARD WEISS always finds suitable solutions for the most diversified framework conditions.
Track construction includes the new construction of tracks, as well as the refurbishment of existing facilities, the exchange of track material, the adaptation of points, and the integration of modern signalling systems. For new construction and conversion measures we put a special focus on sustainable construction methods, in order to minimise environmental stress and improve the local quality of life.
Innovative concepts in railway traffic combine the advantages of a solid track system with aesthetic and environmentally friendly aspects by means of green areas. The track is integrated into a non-ballasted track, which often consists of concrete or another solid material. The ballast is replaced by a special construction, which enables the growth of grass or other plants between the tracks.
This construction leads to a reduction of noise, increases the quality of life and revives the townscape thanks to green surroundings. This measure improves the quality of the air and supports biodiversity in the area. Green tracks are often used for tramways and inner-city railway networks, where they offer functional, as well as visual advantages.
We carry out welding works on rail materials and superstructure parts in all welding techniques for tracks of Deutsche Bahn AG according to the guideline 826.2050. I, branch lines and transport companies.
Our performances include:
- Thermit welding of tracks and points
- Arc welding of connections by means of electrode welding/medium frequency welding
- Arc welding of superstructure parts by means of electrode welding/medium frequency welding

Our company devised, DB authorised, grinding system “Profilia" accurately closes the gap between treatment of rails and points by hand and by means of machines. Thanks to this system we achieve a continuous and therefore complete treatment of points of the highest quality.
We offer:
- Profile-adapted treatment of frogs with fixed or movable points
- Grinding and feather edging of switch blades, open and closed
- Treatment of expansion joint facilities
- Treatment of head-check damages
- Realisation of welding and deburring works, as well as corrugation grinding
- Grinding of WITEC blades

We have all measuring and testing devices at our disposal, in order to prove that the works are carried out according to Ril 824.8310.
The Grinder, a computer-controlled 4-spindle rail grinding machine with EBA authorisation and approval by Deutsche Bahn, which we developed ourselves, can be used for the installation of rails in the entire DB network, industrial and local traffic railways. An adjustment of the gauge is possible in the range from von 750 mm – 1,520 mm. By means of a special software we can save various grinding programs and activate them “just in time“.
In modern track construction, switch point mechanics plays an important role. Our experts for points, crossings, and special solutions accept the challenges in the following fields reliably and with a high level of skill:
- Maintenance and repair
- Actuation and closing technology
- Adjustment technology
- Railway and rail system technology
- Inspection and documentation of points and tracks
- Fault clearance and damage analysis
Railway stations and stopping points are the access points to railway traffic. Travellers can change from the train to various other forms of mobility or from other means of transportation to the train.
In order to make these transfers and stop-overs for all people on site user-friendly, our experts contribute their experience to this segment and enable the successful planning and realisation of the following performances (also in inner-city areas):
- New construction, conversion, and extension of platforms in standard or module (prefabricated parts) construction type, including all access ways and platform facilities
- Production of handicapped-accessible platform access ways
- Passenger underpasses and overbridges
- Production of Park + Ride facilities
- Production of complete station forecourts
During the construction and repair of railway facilities, operating disturbances should be avoided as far as possible. In case of the construction of railway bridges during traffic operation, we use auxiliary bridges, which enable the railway to continue running on its tracks. Under these bridges we build substructures, passages, roads, ways or entire bridges. LEONHARD WEISS offers you everything from one source for the installation and dismantling of auxiliary bridges:
- Transport of auxiliary bridges
- Installation with our own rail cranes (GS 150.17 TR or KRC 1200UIC)
- Installation by means of truck-mounted crane from storage place next to the tracks
- Installation of auxiliary bridges by means of tandem process
- Welding works on supporting beams
- Maintenance of the auxiliary bridge during the construction period
- All measuring works at the tracks and the auxiliary bridge, including documentation
Rely on our expertise and state-of-the-art technology for a smooth realisation of your projects.
