Thanks to this project, LEONHARD WEISS makes an important contribution for the interconnected future of the municipality Inzigkofen, including the villages Engelswies and Vilsingen, for its customer, BLS Breitbandversorgungsgesellschaft. The construction project includes planning, execution and documentation of a comprehensive fibre optic cable network, as well as the management of house connections and the corresponding communication measures.

Technical realisation and infrastructure

The contract includes the new construction of 33.9 km of cable route in public areas and the use of 6.6 km of existing infrastructure. A total of 1,116 house connections are realised in three construction phases in connection with the funding programme Graue Flecken (blank areas). In addition to that, three PoP containers and 29 mains distributors are installed, in order to ensure an ideal coverage of the network.

Particular challenges like the lengthwise laying into the federal road in coordination with the Regional Commission Tübingen over a stretch of 600 m were successfully mastered by the team of LEONHARD WEISS. In addition to that, power supply lines for Netze BW are laid simultaneously with the construction works, which enables an efficient use of the existing infrastructure.

Areas equipped with fibre optic cable are ready for the always increasing hunger for data, for modern internet use from cloud-computing over teleworking, industrial applications and distance teaching up to telemedicine.

Innovative construction methods

LEONHARD WEISS relies on the use of state-of-the-art construction methods like the cable plough, in order to efficiently carry out the laying of the fibre optic cables. This method enables a rapid and more cost-saving laying of the cables, especially in rural areas and areas which are difficult to access, by increasing the daily output. The construction method also supports the careful use of resources, because no replacement material for backfilling must be transported to the construction site. The trench is pushed to the side by the plough, the cable is laid, and afterwards the trench is closed by means of a compacting device. There is no excavation material, which needs to be reused or disposed of.

The project is carried out in close cooperation with the network operator NetCom BW. This cooperation ensures, that the technical requirements and standards are adhered to and the operation of the network can run smoothly.
