As a last compensation measure and contingency measure for the new construction of the B 10 and the B 466, the Regional Commission Stuttgart embarked on the dismantling of the former B10 between Eislingen and Süßen. Objective of the project: the route formerly built with four lanes was to be reduced to two lanes and a footpath and cycling path were to be built next to the road, part of which will be used as a route for fast cyclists. In addition to that, the new construction of three traffic circles, the renovation of two bridge structures and the demolition of one underpass are part of the project.

Construction sequence

The construction project started in March 2024 and will probably already be terminated in July 2025, instead of September 2025, thanks to the good construction progress. The construction works were originally divided into eight construction phases, but the works could be carried out in five sections thanks to efficient merging of the construction phases. When the project is terminated, the LEONHARD WEISS team will have moved up to 50,000 t of soil and asphalted approximately 48,000 m².

Particularities of the project

The dismantling of the B 10, renamed L 1214, is a compensation measure for the new construction of the B10 Göppingen – Gingen an der Fils, of the B466 by-pass Süßen and the K1404 link road Salach. The execution of the project required precise planning of logistics and careful coordination of the activities on the construction site, in order not the disturb the flow of traffic.

A special challenge and at the same time a highlight of the project was the in-house processing and reuse of the dismantled ballast. Instead of using new material, the ballast was reinstalled as recycling material, which gave LEONHARD WEISS a further opportunity of proving our expertise in the field of climate-friendly construction.

Thanks to the realisation of this project, we made a considerable contribution to improving the safety of traffic and the quality of life of the residents. This was achieved thanks to the close cooperation with the Regional Commission Stuttgart, the District Office Göppingen, the municipalities involved and the strict adherence to all safety and operating standards.

In addition to the termination on schedule under minimum disturbance of the flow of traffic during the construction process, the reuse of the resources was a point of focus of the project. Thanks to the use of recycling concrete, the CO2 footprint and the cost of the construction site could be reduced as much as possible.
