In 2021, LEONHARD WEISS was awarded the contract for the planning of the medium voltage section of one of Germany’s largest private charging areas by HomE of Mobility GmbH in Wertheim.

For the successful planning of this comprehensive project the team of experts has carried out numerous challenging tasks. Part of these are - among others - checking the valid regulations according to VDE AR 4110, the coordination with network operators, customers, architects and planners, as well as the planning and technical equipment of the transformer stations and the transmission station. Furthermore, we carried out the planning of the customer-owned medium voltage and communication network and the creation of extensive documentation.

Project information

Customer:
HomE of Mobility GmbH
Construction period:
7 months
Year of construction:
2024

After the building permit had been received in August 2022, LEONHARD WEISS was awarded the contract for the execution of the project. The contract also included the installation of the transformer capacity of 8,000 kVA, charging stations with 5,060 kW, a battery bank with 3,200 kW and a generation capacity of 375 kWp.

During the execution of construction, the team of LEONHARD WEISS carried out the following services: coordination of the mains connection with the network operator and the customer, detailed planning of the station buildings, the electrical equipment, the medium voltage and communication network, as well as the creation of building plans, route planning and network calculations. Among others, a walk-in transmission station, two transformer stations for battery banks with 1,600 kVA each, a walk-in transformer station with 2 x 1,600 kVA and a Tesla Transformer station with 1,600 kVA were erected and connected. In addition to that, the installation of 11 DC charging stations and the laying of about 6,500 m of cables were carried out.

Particularities of the project

  • Application of VDE AR 4110: As an important component of the technical standards in Germany, this regulation considerably contributes to the safe and efficient connection of supply facilities like transformer stations, as well as to the integration of generation plants and battery banks into the medium voltage network. The adherence to the detailed technical requirements demands a broad technical knowledge and precise planning. In addition to that, comprehensive documentation and evidence for the required certification are necessary.

  • Multi-use-case: the team of LEONHARD WEISS has installed six medium voltage measurements in the customer-owned medium voltage network, in order to enable a future multi-use-case of the battery banks. Up to the present, these were mainly developed for one single application. Thanks to the combination of various use-cases, the economic efficiency of battery banks can be increased.

We have got long-standing expertise in projects for the construction of stations and offer customers, like HomE of Mobility GmbH here, innovative solutions – either as factory-built standard product or as individual special solution.
